What is the role of the Moderator?
What about the Moderator?
Moderators are overworked and grossly underpaid. They are usually passionate and intelligent, but most of all, they are pretty good at keeping their sense of humor. It is their responsibility to enforce these guidelines as best they can. That does not mean that they are limited beyond these guidelines in expressing their opinion. Sometimes they disagree with a poster, and they choose to express that opinion just like anyone else. It is never appropriate to discuss administrative actions on the board. If you don't like how a moderator handled something, send them an e-mail about it.
What about my First Amendment right to free speech?
This is a business privately owned by Bravenet and managed by Rainbow. We have every right to limit what is said on our forum as we see fit. The Web is a very big place. If you have an opinion that you feel you must express, you are welcome to build your own forum and say whatever you like. You are not entitled to use The Zig & Zag Forum for only your own purposes.
But they allow it on {this other forum}...
Then go there.
Flaming/Baiting/Trolling/Disrespect/Name Calling (leads to Banning)
None of these will be tolerated. In most instances, your post will be deleted. The solution is simple. Acknowledge your wrong doing, if you wish, and then move on.
Respect other members and do not engage in personal attacks on other members or post personally insulting comments or statements (flaming / bashing).
Criticize ideas and viewpoints posted here, not the people who post those ideas or viewpoints.
Carrying on personal/private communications or alluding to such communications distracts from discussions and will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others (Do not post pictures, names, addresses, phone numbers, work places of others, etc. without their express permission).
One other thing on this topic. The banning of others is not a topic for discussion anywhere on The Zig & Zag Forum. The issue is between the Moderator and the poster who was banned. It does not concern the rest of the forum. If you choose to make a fuss and issue about it on behalf of the banned member, you yourself will be banned also. These types of discussions are VERY disruptive to the entire froum. Also remember that there are always two sides to every story and there's a very good chance that you really don't know both of them. So don't speculate or assume. And if you really, really MUST do something, then email the Moderator. Keep it off of the Forum!!
Whining and Complaining about the rules
This forum has rules. Just about every forum on the Internet has some kind of rules. All of you are here because of how it is run and the atmosphere. There are other forums you can go to but you choose to come here. The rules exist in order to keep things running smoothly and to maintain the atmosphere that you all enjoy when you come here looking for information or to share information. You all have probably seen what can happen when everyone is just left to do what they want. HINT: It amounts to total chaos and disorder. Should we allow all kinds of language and insults to other posters and just generally let everything run amok? Of course, that is a ridiculous notion, and not our style here. That is why there are rules. The Moderator is around in order to keep order, so that your experiences on this forum are pleasant and informative and fun.
If everyone comported themselves as mature adults, we wouldn't have to have rules. But unfortunately, that is not how things are.
Do not post questions regarding these guidelines or complain about the rules and enforcement thereof on the board, or abuse the Moderator for decisions and rule enforcement. If you have a gripe about the rules, E-MAIL the Moderator. It is very disruptive to the board when gripes take over a thread. Take them off the board in either private messages or email. The alternative is to go and start your own forum and set your own rules. Otherwise, this is Rainbow’s forum. You play by her rules.
Almost all of these topics pertain to plain and simple manners. There is never any excuse for rudeness and bad manners. If you feel that you cannot treat people with respect and consideration on this forum, then go somewhere else.
For those of you who this post does not pertain to, thank you for making this forum simply AWESOME place that it is!
